Eighteen-year-old Kieran Matthew avoided prison after violently attacking his teacher, Carol Shaw, at St Paul\u2019s Academy in Dundee. During the incident, he grabbed her in a \u201crugby-style grip\u201d and slammed her head onto a concrete floor, leaving her unconscious with a severe head injury that required 10 stitches. Doctors said the injuries could have been fatal.<\/p>\n
The attack left Ms. Shaw permanently scarred and unable to return to teaching. She continues to suffer from panic attacks, nightmares, and psychological trauma.<\/p>\n
Despite pleading guilty to assault causing permanent disfigurement and endangerment to life, Matthew received a three-year social work supervision order instead of jail. He must attend anger management sessions and follow a nighttime curfew.<\/p>\n
The court heard that Matthew had a history of severe childhood abuse, PTSD, ADHD, and significant learning difficulties, which were considered mitigating factors.
