19-year-old Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, who was fatally stabbed at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025. As the sentence was read, Anthony and his family broke down in tears, shortly after his mother made a desperate 4-word plea to the judge.<\/p>\n

He was later sentenced to 35 years in prison for the killing, a case that shocked the community and left two families devastated.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors called the attack \u201csenseless\u201d and avoidable. \u201cWhat is important is not motive. It\u2019s mindset,\u201d said prosecutor Bill Wirskye. \u201cHe took a knife to a track meet,\u201d adding that Anthony had several chances to walk away. \u201cThe video tells the story,\u201d he said, referencing surveillance footage and witnesses.<\/p>\n

The defense claimed Anthony acted in self-defense during a split-second moment of fear. \u201cTexas law does not require that you wait until you get hit,\u201d said lawyer Mike Howard. \u201cIn that split second of chaos, you must put yourself in his shoes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before sentencing, Anthony\u2019s mother, Kala Hayes, pleaded for mercy, saying, \u201cPlease have mercy on my son.\u201d<\/p>\n

After less than three hours of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict and sentenced him to 35 years.<\/p>\n

Following the verdict, Austin Metcalf\u2019s mother spoke about the pain of losing her son, describing a life now filled with silence and grief. She called Austin a kind \u201cpeacemaker\u201d who brought people together.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy son was murdered. He didn\u2019t just die,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The case closes a long legal battle, but both families continue to live with the loss.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
