I thought widowhood meant learning to live with silence, but eight months after Harold\u2019s death, that silence was broken by my granddaughter.<\/p>\n

I had avoided his shed since the funeral, unable to face it as I tried to adjust to life alone after 40 years of marriage.<\/p>\n

When my five-year-old granddaughter Maisie came to stay, she pointed outside one morning and said Grandpa was \u201csleeping in the shed\u201d and that she had heard him cough.<\/p>\n

I dismissed it, but the next morning she returned with Harold\u2019s old work glove\u2014the one I thought was buried with him\u2014saying he told her I\u2019d know where the other one was.<\/p>\n
