{"id":2971,"date":"2026-06-16T16:44:43","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T16:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amazefeed.fun\/?p=2971"},"modified":"2026-06-16T16:44:43","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T16:44:43","slug":"john-mccains-son-passes-away-unexpectedly-at-66","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amazefeed.fun\/?p=2971","title":{"rendered":"John McCain\u2019s Son Passes Away Unexpectedly at 66"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ad_ph\">\n<p>The McCain family is mourning the unexpected loss of Douglas Shepp McCain, the eldest son of the late U.S. Senator John McCain, who died suddenly at the age of 66 on Wednesday, May 20.<\/p>\n<p>His sister, Meghan McCain, shared the heartbreaking news in a touching Instagram tribute, describing Douglas as &#8220;a truly wonderful, joyful man&#8221; whose humor, kindness, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas was born in Pensacola, Florida, and was the eldest son of Carol McCain from her first marriage. After marrying Carol in 1965, John McCain adopted Douglas and his brother, Andrew, raising them as his own. The couple later had a daughter, Sidney. Following their divorce, John McCain married Cindy McCain, and they welcomed four more children: Meghan, Jack, James, and Bridget.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas attended Jacksonville Episcopal High School before graduating from the University of Virginia in 1982 with a degree in Systems Engineering. During his time there, he met his future wife, Ashley.<\/p>\n<p>He later served in the U.S. Navy and went on to work as a captain for American Airlines. Although he generally stayed out of the public spotlight, he occasionally supported his adoptive father during political campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas is survived by his wife, Ashley; daughter, Caroline; son, Douglas Shepp McCain Jr.; and grandson, Teddy.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial gathering was scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at Princess Anne Country Club.
