A federal court ruled that adding Donald Trump\u2019s name to the Kennedy Center was unlawful, ordering it to be removed.<\/p>\n

The controversy began after Trump allies, having taken control of the Kennedy Center board, renamed it the \u201cDonald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.\u201d Critics said the move violated federal law, which protects the institution\u2019s original designation honoring President John F. Kennedy and requires Congress to approve any name change.<\/p>\n

In late May, U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled the addition illegal and gave officials two weeks to remove it. After an appeals court denied a delay, the lettering was taken down on June 13.<\/p>\n

Supporters of the ruling called it a win for the law and for preserving the center\u2019s original identity, while critics argued the change should have been allowed and promised to continue legal challenges.<\/p>\n
