Witnesses described a terrifying scene as the massive shark struck from behind with incredible speed, leaving little chance for escape.<\/p>\n

But amid the chaos, Psillakis displayed remarkable bravery. According to his close friend and former professional surfer Toby Martin, Mercury was focused on warning others about the shark and helping fellow surfers stay together.
