His wife, Annie, and their children, Talia and Tommy Jr., confirmed his passing in a statement shared on Facebook on Monday. “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026. After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end. During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another.” “Rest in peace, Dad. With love, Annie, Talia & Tommy Jr.” Tommy DeCarlo was an American rock singer best known for serving as the lead vocalist of the legendary rock band Boston. He rose to prominence in the late 2000s after being discovered online by Boston’s founder and guitarist Tom Scholz. DeCarlo was born on April 23, 1965, in the United States and spent much of his early life working outside the music industry. Before joining Boston, he worked as a credit manager at a home improvement company while performing music as a hobby. His life changed dramatically in 2007 after the death of Boston’s original singer Brad Delp. A devoted Boston fan, DeCarlo recorded tribute versions of the band’s songs and posted them on MySpace in honor of Delp. His powerful vocals, which closely resembled Delp’s signature sound, caught the attention of Scholz. Impressed, Scholz invited DeCarlo to audition for Boston, eventually asking him to join the band. DeCarlo made his live debut with Boston during their 2008 tour and quickly became the group’s lead vocalist, performing classic hits such as “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Don’t Look Back.” He toured extensively with the band for more than a decade and appeared on Boston’s 2013 album Life, Love & Hope. Known for his soaring voice and heartfelt performances, DeCarlo earned praise from fans for honoring the band’s classic sound while bringing his own energy to the stage. His journey—from posting tribute recordings online to fronting one of rock’s most iconic bands—became an inspiring story for many musicians.

Tommy DeCarlo, the lead singer of the rock band Boston, has died at the age of 60.
