When he was 13, his father was shot and killed. At 20, while studying at Juilliard, his younger sister Karen was kidnapped, raped, and murdered. Years later, two of his half-brothers also died in a scuba-diving accident.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"821\">The tragedies deeply affected him, leading to years of grief and substance abuse. Grammer later admitted he drank heavily to numb the pain but eventually became sober in 1996 and began rebuilding his life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"1048\">Despite the trauma, he built a hugely successful acting career after joining\u00a0<strong data-start=\"900\" data-end=\"910\">Cheers<\/strong>\u00a0in 1984, later starring in\u00a0<strong data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"949\">Frasier<\/strong>, a role that earned him multiple Emmy Awards and made him one of television\u2019s most beloved actors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1050\" data-end=\"1267\">In his personal life, Grammer eventually found happiness with his wife\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1121\" data-end=\"1162\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Kayte Walsh<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, whom he married in 2011.
