Congressman Dies at 80 While Campaigning for Re-Election!!

David Scott, a longtime Georgia lawmaker and businessman, has died at 80. A Democrat serving 12 terms in Congress, he was known for supporting farmers, education, healthcare, veterans, and historically Black colleges, and became the first Black man to chair the House Agriculture Committee. Before entering politics, Scott built a successful business and later served in Georgia’s House, Senate, and U.S. Congress, remaining a major figure in state politics for decades.
