According to the New York Post, a mother and her young daughter were found dead inside a room at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Authorities discovered the bodies Sunday after the pair missed a scheduled cheerleading competition. Officers initially responded to a welfare check but found no answer. After additional concerns from family members, police returned and made the discovery.
The victims were later identified as Addi Smith, a pre-teen cheerleader from Salt Lake City, and her mother, Tawnia McGeehan. Utah Xtreme Cheer confirmed Addi’s death, describing her as a beloved member of their team.
Investigators believe the mother shot her daughter late Saturday before taking her own life. A note was found in the room, but its contents have not been released. The investigation remains ongoing.!!
