My sister-in-law invited my kids to her mansion for what was supposed to be a fun summer getaway. Instead, she took their phones and made them spend their days cleaning, doing laundry, maintaining the pool, and serving guests while her daughter relaxed.
When my daughter secretly texted me begging for help, I drove there immediately and found both of my children working like employees. I packed them up and brought them home.
The next day, I sent my sister-in-law a bill for their labor. She paid it within an hour. I used the money to take my kids on a real vacation—and taught them that asking for help is brave, and that their mother will always protect them.
