Sources close to the 83-year-old say the treatment is working, but it has also left him physically weaker, with most of his time now centered on medical care, family, and protecting his legacy.
Biden plans to publish a memoir on November 17, but some Democratic allies worry the book tour could reignite controversy over his age and health, issues that dominated the 2024 election. President Donald Trump has continued to criticize Biden’s mental and physical condition, while Biden’s family has pushed back strongly against political attacks related to his cancer diagnosis.
Although Biden has appeared at a few public events and remains optimistic about his recovery, his influence since leaving office has been limited. He has yet to establish a major post-presidency foundation, and fundraising for his future presidential library has fallen well behind the efforts of former presidents such as Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
