Most kids think adulthood looks easy, but one mom decided to teach her 13-year-old son a powerful lesson about responsibility after he started acting entitled and refusing to follow rules.
Back in 2015, Heidi Johnson’s son Aaron began behaving like he was fully independent after making a small amount of money from YouTube. When he told his mom he was a “free person,” she responded with a creative wake-up call: a “roommate contract.”
The letter explained that if he wanted to live like an adult, he would need to pay rent, utilities, food, and internet bills, while also cooking and cleaning for himself. She signed it, “Love, Mom.”
Although Aaron reacted angrily at first, he later realized how much he had been taking for granted and asked how he could earn back his privileges. Heidi said the lesson was never about money, but about helping her son understand responsibility and appreciate everything provided for him.
