A Maine father, Ryan Jennings, died while saving his children from a rip current at Juno Beach in Florida.
While swimming with his 12-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter, the family was pulled into dangerous waters. His son made it back to shore and alerted his mother, while Ryan pushed him to safety and kept his daughter above water during the struggle.
Lifeguards later rescued the family, but Ryan was found unconscious and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials said the incident was caused by strong rip currents, which are responsible for about 100 deaths each year in the U.S.
Loved ones described Ryan as a hero who put his children first in his final moments. A GoFundMe set up for the family has raised over $200,000.
