Ahmed Al Ahmed was once praised as a hero after stepping in during a deadly December attack in Sydney, where 15 people were killed and dozens injured. He was filmed confronting and disarming a gunman at a Jewish event, an act many said prevented further loss of life. He was later shot twice and underwent surgery, and a GoFundMe campaign raised millions in support of him.
Now, he is facing legal trouble.
Police in Sydney have charged the 44-year-old with common assault and stalking/intimidation after an alleged domestic incident involving his father in Bankstown. Authorities also issued an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO), and he is due to appear in court in July.
Ahmed denies the allegations, calling them “fake information” and saying he has no knowledge of the incident.
The case has shocked many, given his earlier praise as a “real-life hero” for his actions during the Bondi Beach terror attack.!!
