Update on cause of death after missing US student found dead in Japanese woods

Search ends tragically for US student James “Weston” Higginbotham, 20, who went missing on May 29 in Kyoto, Japan.

He was last seen at Kyoto Station around 6 p.m. before a major search effort, including the FBI.

On June 6, he was found dead in a mountainous area outside Kyoto by a volunteer search team. Police said no foul play is suspected, and the cause of death has not been released.

His family thanked supporters and asked for privacy as they grieve.
