The Reward That Changed Everything
On our way to my parents’ house for Thanksgiving, my seven-year-old daughter Emma and I drove through the season’s first snowfall. Since her mother left when Emma was three, it’s been just the two of us, and my parents have always made the holidays feel special.
About forty minutes from their home, I noticed an old sedan stranded on the side of the highway. An elderly couple stood beside it, shivering in the cold with a flat tire and no help in sight.
I pulled over while Emma waited in the car. The couple apologized repeatedly for delaying our holiday, but I assured them it was no trouble. After about fifteen minutes in the freezing weather, I had the spare tire installed.
The elderly man gripped my hand tightly, his eyes filled with gratitude. “You just saved us,” he said.
I wished them a safe trip, returned to Emma—who proudly gave me two thumbs up—and we continued on to Thanksgiving dinner, never imagining that this small act of kindness would soon change our lives forever.
