Television has lost one of its most familiar faces. Anne Schedeen, best known as Kate Tanner on ALF, has died at the age of 77.
Schedeen was widely loved for her warm, grounded performance as the heart of the Tanner family in the hit NBC sitcom, helping make the unusual story of a suburban family living with an alien feel relatable and heartfelt.
Her family announced her peaceful passing in a Facebook statement, remembering her as a creative, humorous, and deeply loving person who cherished art, family, and her many passions.
Born in 1949 in Portland, Oregon, Schedeen overcame a shy childhood to build a long television career, appearing in major shows like The Six Million Dollar Man, Cheers, and Murder, She Wrote before becoming a household name on ALF from 1986 to 1990.
Away from acting, she pursued art, writing, and charitable work. Her agent said she “meant the world” to those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, her daughter, extended family, and beloved dogs.
Her family has asked for donations to Habitat for Humanity in her memory, and fans will remember her as the calm, comforting presence who brought heart to television.
