My sister sold me her old, non-working car for a symbolic price. Needing transportation to university, I spent months and over $5,000 restoring it with new tires, paint, engine repairs, and other upgrades.
After the car was finally running, she demanded it back because her husband’s car had broken down. Claiming she had never completed the ownership transfer, she insisted the car was still legally hers. Even my parents sided with her, saying I should return it because we’re family.
Instead of arguing, I presented every receipt for the restoration costs and told her she could have the car back if she reimbursed me. She refused to pay, so I kept the car. Her husband eventually fixed his own vehicle, while mine continues to get me to university every day.
