At a UFC event held at the White House for America’s 250th anniversary, fighter Josh Hokit sparked backlash after making a controversial post-fight comment that falsely and offensively referenced Michelle Obama.
Reports later claimed a lip reader said Donald Trump briefly responded to Hokit afterward, saying: “Too kind, thank you. You are the champion.”
The moment came after Hokit’s post-fight interview praising the Trump-hosted event, where his remarks quickly spread online.
UFC President Dana White later criticized “nasty and false” comments about people’s families, while also defending free speech but distancing himself from that type of rhetoric.
Marco Rubio also spoke at the event, calling it a historic occasion and praising both UFC and its symbolic significance.
