Family Seeks Answers Following Tragic Death of 4-Year-Old at Daycare

The first time I truly questioned what happened to my daughter Ava was not at the hospital—but days after her funeral, when her daycare teacher called me with a voice I’ll never forget.

“Something on the footage doesn’t add up,” she said. “I’ve sent you a video.”

That morning, Ava had been healthy—playing in her pink pajamas while I hurried to work. My husband, Mark, said he would take her to daycare because I was already late for a meeting. A few hours later, I got the call that she had suffered a severe allergic reaction and died.

We were told it was a tragic accident.

After the funeral, Mark handled everything while I was barely holding myself together. Then the teacher called again, insisting I look at the security footage.

The video showed Mark arriving with Ava—and a woman from his workplace, Lauren. She gave Ava a drink before they left.

Later, I learned Mark had been having an affair with her.

When I confronted him, he admitted Lauren had brought a smoothie for Ava that morning. He hadn’t told her about Ava’s dairy allergy, and the drink contained dairy.

A follow-up check confirmed the drink contained dairy, even though the café had clearly listed allergen information. Lauren insisted she didn’t know.

In the end, everything traced back to Mark—his secrecy, his distraction, and the choices he failed to make.

And I realized our marriage had already ended the day Ava died.
