Never-before-seen pictures of Meghan Markle give new insight into her childhood

Harry and Meghan Markle’s six-part Netflix documentary, released in December, traces their relationship, royal life, and the controversies that led them to step away from the monarchy. Buckingham Palace declined to comment, though the royal family reportedly opposed the release, as they also did with Meghan’s Oprah interview and Harry’s memoir, Spare.

The series revisits Meghan’s life before royalty, including her upbringing in Los Angeles, early exposure to show business through her father, and her acting career, which peaked with her role on Suits. It also touches on her first marriage to film producer Trevor Engelson, which ended in divorce in 2013.

Royal traditions have long viewed divorce and remarriage as sensitive issues, making Meghan’s past something Buckingham Palace preferred not to highlight. Despite the monarchy’s gradual modernization, Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties and their public revelations caused deep tensions within the family.

The documentary includes never-before-seen photos and personal moments, including images of a young Meghan and appearances by their children, Archie and Lilibet. The couple made clear they intended to tell their side of the story, regardless of royal disapproval.
