Beloved Film and TV Actor Dies at 91

William Smithers, known for portraying the ruthless Jeremy Wendell in Dallas, has died at 98.

Born in 1927, Smithers served in the military before entering acting, later appearing in major TV series like The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, and Gunsmoke, along with films such as Papillon and Scorpio.

He became a familiar face in Hollywood over decades, but his most iconic role came on Dallas, where he played a powerful oil executive and rival to J.R. Ewing.

Beyond acting, Smithers was also known for a landmark legal battle with MGM over contract rights, a case that he ultimately won and which later became studied in entertainment law.

His career spanned more than 60 years, earning him a reputation as a steady and respected figure in both television and film.
