My mom had just beaten cancer, and her first flight afterward was meant to be a celebration.
She loved clouds, so I booked her the window seat.
I kept talking during the flight to calm her nerves—until a stranger angrily shouted:
“Keep it down!”
My mom quietly apologized, but the man demanded the flight attendant do something.
Then the attendant checked my mom’s boarding pass.
Her face changed.
She walked away, called the captain, and moments later he stood beside us.
“Mrs. Parker,” he said softly, “eight years ago, your husband arranged something special for this flight.”
My mom froze.
Because my father had been gone for years.
And somehow, he had left her one final message.
