Elvis Presley made his Hollywood debut in Love Me Tender (1956), and while the film became a fan favourite, its story behind the scenes is just as remarkable.
The movie was originally called The Reno Brothers before being renamed to promote Elvis’ smash-hit song. Despite having a minor role, his incredible popularity earned him extra scenes, and he quickly impressed the cast and crew with his professionalism.
Behind the cameras, Elvis reportedly fell in love with co-star Debra Paget and even asked her to marry him, though she turned him down. Meanwhile, audiences were so upset by his character’s death that producers changed the ending to include one last performance of Love Me Tender.
The classic Western also contains several memorable mistakes, from modern cars appearing in Civil War scenes to impossible zippers and guitar music continuing even after Elvis stopped playing—making it an entertaining watch both on and off the screen.
