Second teen girl dies after best friend killed In Texas sledding tragedy

A Texas community is grieving after a tragic sledding accident killed two 16-year-old girls in Frisco.

On Jan. 25, police responded to reports that teens had been injured while riding a sled tied to the back of a Jeep Wrangler driven by another teen. The sled struck a curb and crashed into a tree. Elizabeth Angle died at the scene, while her best friend, Grace “Gracie” Brito, was placed on life support and died two days later.

Gracie’s family described her as a kind, creative, and compassionate teen who loved cheerleading and had recently earned her driver’s license. She was an All-Star cheerleader at Express Dance & Cheer, where she was remembered as a natural leader and source of optimism.

Elizabeth, a Wakeland High School sophomore and rising soccer player with FC Dallas, was inseparable from Gracie. Her mother shared that the girls were lifelong friends and “were holding on to each other on the sled.”

A neighbor said the Jeep accelerated quickly on icy roads, and the girls were heard screaming before the crash. Police confirmed alcohol was not involved and that the investigation is ongoing.

To honor Elizabeth’s memory, her family launched The Elizabeth Angle Foundation to provide scholarships for children in need. Separate fundraisers have also been created to support Gracie’s family with unexpected expenses.
