Austin Metcalf’s Mother Speaks Out After Karmelo Anthony’s Sentence

Austin Metcalf’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, delivered a heartbreaking statement to the teen convicted of killing her son moments before he was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Karmelo Anthony, 19, was sentenced on June 10 after being found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a 2025 Texas high school track meet in Frisco.

Before sentencing, Austin’s family addressed Anthony in court, speaking about their devastating loss.

Meghan described her grief, saying life without her son feels empty and that she now only speaks to him at his grave. She remembered Austin as a kind, peaceful teenager and stressed, “My son was murdered. He didn’t just die.”

Turning to Anthony, she said, “You should feel lucky you got 35 years because I’ve been given a life sentence.”

Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, also spoke, saying the loss destroyed him and changed his life forever. He said he forgave Anthony after the tragedy but could never forgive the act itself, and reminded him that actions have consequences.

The emotional statements came as Anthony received his 35-year sentence.
