A tragic family vacation turned into a criminal investigation after 18-year-old Anna Marie Kepner was found dead aboard a Caribbean cruise in November 2025. The Florida teenager, described by loved ones as bright, ambitious, and full of promise, was discovered hidden beneath a bed in her cabin several days into the voyage. Medical examiners later ruled her death a homicide caused by mechanical asphyxiation and concluded that she had been sexually assaulted.
The FBI’s investigation ultimately focused on Anna’s 16-year-old stepbrother, Timothy Hudson. Prosecutors allege that surveillance footage, forensic evidence, and DNA findings connect him to the crime. Hudson was initially charged as a juvenile, but a federal judge later ruled that he should be tried as an adult due to the seriousness of the allegations. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse.
The case has generated significant public attention, not only because of the shocking circumstances but also because of conflicting accounts from family members.
