A woman has shared a heartbreaking photo taken just minutes before her three-year-old granddaughter, Scarlett Jensen, was killed in a hit-and-run on October 7, 2022, in Oldtown, Idaho.
Scarlett and her two-year-old brother, Henry, were being cared for by their grandmother while their parents were away. As the three walked in the family’s private driveway, a speeding Chevy Tahoe struck them. Scarlett died almost instantly, while her grandmother and brother were critically injured. The driver fled but was later caught and sentenced to ten years in prison.
Henry suffered severe injuries, including a fractured spine, broken ribs and jaw, and internal damage, spending a week in intensive care and weeks in a full-body brace. His grandmother was also injured but later released from the hospital.
Weeks later, Scarlett’s mother, Samantha Jensen, discovered a photo her mother had taken just five minutes before Scarlett’s death—capturing her picking flowers after an ice cream outing. Though painful at first, Samantha now treasures the image as a peaceful reminder of her daughter’s final moments.
As the family continues to grieve and heal through therapy and faith, Samantha says the photo helps her remember Scarlett as happy, carefree, and surrounded by love.
