My ex-husband told me our son Howard broke his leg in a freak scooter accident.
But a nurse saw something I didn’t.
When Jasper touched Howard’s blanket, my son flinched. Moments later, the nurse handed me a note:
“HE’S LYING. CHECK THE CAMERA AT 3 A.M.”
I went to security and watched the hospital footage.
At 3 a.m., Jasper entered Howard’s room with another woman.
Then I heard the truth.
Jasper admitted he wasn’t there when Howard got hurt. He had left him with his girlfriend, and after the accident, he convinced Howard to lie about what happened.
My 10-year-old son was carrying the burden of protecting his father’s secret.
I saved the footage, and the hospital involved social workers.
When I confronted Jasper, he tried to deny everything — until he realized the truth was already recorded.
Later, Howard told me quietly, “Mom, I don’t like keeping secrets.”
I held his hand and said:
“You never have to do that again.”
That day, I learned the truth can hurt, but a child should never have to protect an adult’s lies.
